A Preview of What Is to Come
By Aaron Brown
Ah, yes! Here we are again at the beginning of the NFL and NBA seasons and the approaching conclusion of the MLB and MLS seasons. This is the time when our thin, flickering passions for sports are rekindled into huge bonfires.
Here's what I expect to see in this year:
Football
The NFL season has been underway for several weeks, and we now have a legitimate reason to never leave our couches or stray from our televisions. Changes in the off-season have improved some teams for the rigors ahead. Who are the teams that will be struggling to win this year's championship? Dallas , Indianapolis , New England, and San Diego all have a shot.
The Michael Vick saga will continue.
Personal pick of NFL Champions: The Dallas Cowboys. I choose these guys partly because I'm biased and they're my home team and partly because they are 6-1 and still going strong.
Basketball
And what can I say about my favorite sport? This is the year in which teams like Phoenix , Dallas , and Detroit wreak havoc in the NBA and provide a very exciting season. Boston has suddenly risen from the cellar with the additions of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. If Boston lands old man Reggie Miller as they are rumored to, this team will be a serious Eastern Conference contender. Though not much has happened in the off-season as was expected, other playoff contenders like Chicago , Cleveland , and Utah will look to build on strong finishes this season.
Personal pick of NBA Champions: The Phoenix Suns. Look to see the revenge of a little man named Steve Nash. With Amare Stoudamire back in good health, this team's offense will once again be loaded for another run deep into the playoffs.
