Dear Northstar Artists,

Want to show off your talent? I would love for your to share your artwork with the Navigator!

We are starting a new feature of the Navigator called "The Gallery" where you can post any sort of artistic creation you have made that can be sent in some way through the computer. All types of art are welcome - drawings, paintings, graphics, animations, photos, mixed media - the more creative, the better! (Please do not send music or writing.)

Unlike art columns already in the Navigator, or as seen in previous years, you will not be interviewed. This is a gallery. You are encouraged to send in as much art as you like (though we probably won't be able to publish all of it at once!). When you send in your artwork, please be sure to include the following information:

  1. Name of your piece
  2. What you used to make it
  3. Your name and age
  4. Choose ONE of the following to answer in ONE sentence.
  • What is your favorite color?
  • Who is your favorite artist?
  • What is your biggest inspiration?
  • When did you start drawing / other art form?
  • What is your favorite class?
  • What is your favorite piece of art of all time? (name of picture / creation, and name of artist)

If this sounds like something you would like to participate in, please e-mail the NavigatorTeam account (navteam@northstar-academy.org) with the word "Gallery" in the subject of your e-mail.

I look forward to seeing your artwork!

Thanks,

Karissa

Ever been away from school from a week? I have, and it's no fun. It's pretty hard to keep track of all those conversations too. I think we've all had those times when we just can't seem to keep up with what's going around on in the Café. You don't have to worry anymore; the Northern Lights is going to summarize the important goings-on in the Café. Are you going to be gone for a week again? Don't worry, just look to the Northern Lights !

“Front page” News

One of the most exciting events of late was the start of NorthStar's very own podcast called the Northcaster . The first podcast has already been released, and the second one is on its way! The Northcaster is headed by Ray Suzuki and features different hosts for each episode. Several folks have already volunteered for hosting. If you are interested, just talk to Ray Suzuki or Jarrett Carter. One of the benefits of the Northcaster is that you can listen to all the Café news. This means that if you don't have time to read the Northern Lights , you can download the Northcaster or listen to it while browsing NSA. In the future, we may also provide links to the Northcaster here in this article!

Also recently, the Student Council elections were finished up. If you missed it in the School News, Micah Engel is now the President, and Jeshua Anderson is the Vice-President. A list of the other Council members follows:

Photo alert! There is a new Photography Contest starting up in the Contest folder. Details are yet to be announced, but if you are curious about what's going on, here is a peek into what the judges are discussing. Basically, there will be five categories: Architecture, Abstract, Nature, People, and Still Life. If you aren't what sure what category to put something in, the judges will be glad to help. Here are the rules:

Rules:

Must be your own picture/work

Must be under 3M

Must be in .JPG format

Pictures must be named appropriately

More details will be given on the last rule when more info on the contest comes out. Just keep an eye on the Contest folder for the announcement.

Senior High News

As usual, the Student Café was filled with many posts, some random and some with more notable topics.

One of the larger discussions was comparing guys to girls. Apparently, many people participated just for light-heartedly poking fun, but some thought the conversation got carried too far.

Another discussion appeared about the missing folders in the Interest Areas. Some of the less used folders were removed by Mr. Bowers, and several people were commenting about the new look.

Perhaps one of the most interesting discussions was Abortion – Right or Wrong? Many did a good job at pointing out some of the issues that were harder to answer. Some of this conversation is still in the Café if anyone wants to check it out.

In the Music Interest Area there is a new Drums folder! Presently only a few people have posted in there, but if you are interested in drums, I would recommend checking out this new folder. The rest of the Music Interest Area folder is engaged in usual discussion ranging from Les Miserables music to non-Christian metal.

In the Pets folder there is the unfortunate news that Cara Anderson's dog , Thunder, passed away in October. He was a German Shepherd and was sick for three days before he died. Other than that the Pets folder hosts mostly pet pictures.

The longest recent thread in the Surveys & Questionnaires folder asks a few random questions for each letter of the alphabet. This chain contains 37 posts, and still seems to be going.

For those who enjoy reading Courage with Serenity , Kylie N. just released the 21 st chapter in the Creative Writing folder. Other stories released recently are Elyenesar chapter 1, and Jaguar chapter 4. Also, the Musketeers folder has been revived for anyone interested in playing. It is a writing game based on The Three Musketeers book. There are many other interesting works in the Creative Writing folder, so don't forget to check it out!

Junior High News

Unfortunately, we do not have any junior high reporters right now. If anyone is interested in this position or any other position on the Navigator Reporter Team , contact me through the NavTeam account e-mail navteam@northstar-academy.org

Elementary News

The big news this time is we have an Elementary News section! I hope all elementary Navigator readers are excited. The Elementary reporter is Sarah Warwick, and if you would like to help her out just contact me and Sarah Warwick. (Please note you must be an elementary student to report on the elementary café; if you are not an elementary student you will be unable to get into the elementary café.)
