Fact: The first camera was called camera obscura which means “dark chamber.” In a dark room, a small hole in the wall allowed an outside image to be projected into the room, upside down.

In His Timing

God’s timing is something I have yet to understand. I don’t know why He does things when he does them, but I know that He does have a purpose. When we take a picture, I feel that timing is very relevant. I’ve taken so many photographs that are no good because the time was not quite right. Isn’t it better to wait a little while for the opportune moment when you can capture the best picture, than to rush and get one that might not be as good? We must develop patience when working with pictures. Andrew has some great pictures that he has taken at the perfect moment. Take a look!

How old are you?  I’m 15

How long have you been into photography? Since 2005

Which subjects do you like to take pictures of? I really like animals, but I’m really picky about what I use my film on.

What kind of camera do you shoot with? I usually shoot with a  35 mm manual Pentax single lens reflex, but I have taken some pictures with a Cannon A85.

Do you plan to use photography in your future, as in a job? I hope so, if I can find someone who’ll pay for them.

What tips do you offer those just starting in photography? Keep shooting, some of my early pictures were blurred and unfocused, but in time, I got better.

What has made you stick with it? Mainly I stuck with it because I enjoyed it.

How old were you when you started taking an interest in photography? I was 12.

Do you have a certain “formula” for taking pictures? None that I can think of….

What do you think makes a good picture? I usually like to focus in on one animal in a herd to single one face out of thousands, though for some pictures, it is good to focus on the multitude, depending on what you want to show.

What time of day do you prefer to shoot? I like the early morning, and the late evening because of the softer colors, but often you don’t have much of a choice.

What do you like most about the camera you shoot with? I like the fact that you can control every little detail, the flash, the aperture, focusing, shutter speed, etc.

What kind of camera do you recommend for those interested in taking photography seriously? I’d recommend a manual 35 mm SLR, which are durable, and take good pictures.

What do your pictures represent or reflect? (personality, ideas, dreams, etc.) Most of mine capture a glimpse of God’s creation, of how they are each uniquely made.

How do you think your pictures could help others interested in photography? Do you take certain pictures when you are in different moods? I usually am in a good mood when I’m taking pictures, so I wouldn’t know.

At the moment that I am writing this, I’m on my way home from a youth conference called Planet Wisdom. Over and over again God is proving His amazing embrace and beautiful grace to me. He knows exactly what He wants to do in my life. As He’s molding, He will do certain things in His timing. We learned this weekend about using our interest to show others about our Heavenly Father. Mark Matlock pointed out that we should be thinking about how we can use that talent to glorify God. I’ve been think about that a lot. Now I want to ask you: What do you do to use your talents for the Lord? Feel free to email me about what you thought of. Although now that you’ve thought of that, don’t let it go to waste! Do it!

If you have any questions, please email Paige Walker! Snap away!
