AP® Calculus AB EVP (MATH500e)
Enriched Virtual
1.0 (yearlong course)
Pre-AP® Precalculus (MATH400) or equivalent.
This course covers all topics of the calculus of functions of a single variable as described in the AP® Calculus AB topic outline in the AP® Calculus Course Description. Major topics covered include Functions, Graphs, Limits, Derivatives, Integrals, and Applications of Integrals.
This course is designed to develop the student’s understanding of the concepts covered in the first semester of university calculus and half of the second semester of university calculus. Multiple experiences in the methods and applications of those concepts and the Rule of Four are also stressed throughout the course.
Students are trained to express all solutions geometrically, numerically, analytically, and to interpret these findings verbally. Students hoping to major in the math, science, or engineering fields should apply. Students who complete the course will be well prepared for the AB AP® exam. Technology and graphing calculators are used extensively in this course to reinforce the concepts covered.
Students need access to a scanner or digital camera (phone is fine) in order to submit work for the teacher to review. Students will also need a TI-84 graphing calculator for this course. Each student must also have the computer connectivity cable for their calculator as they will be provided with several calculus programs to download for their TI-84 calculator that can also be used on the AP® exam.
The recommended sequence for students wishing to pursue advanced math classes: MATH150, MATH250, MATH350, MATH400, followed by their choice of MATH500, MATH510, or MATH520.
If you are planning to take the AP® exam associated with this course, then be aware that beginning in Fall 2019 the College Board requires that all students register in October of each school year to take the exam which is held in early May. You must make your decision early. There are penalties associated with late registration and with registering and then deciding not to take the exam at a later date. Please plan accordingly. For more information or if you have more questions, please visit https://apcentral.collegeboard.org . Once on the site, search Home-Schooled Students to find information on locating testing locations near you. Choosing an AP® course start date in July will make the student ineligible for CCU dual credit.
*As part of the EVP program, this course will have a live class requirement once a week at a set time; please see the website for time choices. This live class will include teaching, discussion with classmates from around the world, demonstrations, questions and answers, and other aspects of a live classroom. Students will have weekly due dates and stay on a traditional coursework schedule.

Are you planning on going to college to major in a STEM-based field? If so, did you know that you will more than likely be working with Calculus?
Why not get ahead and come to AP® Calculus AB? This class is the university equivalent of Calculus 1. During your time in this class, you will be learning about the different concepts that build the foundation of an engineer’s education. These concepts include; limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, and application. Do not miss out on taking this journey with the teacher as she prepares you for math at the university and engineering level!

I feel the course is well organized and well presented.
I enjoyed taking this course. If this was not my last year with NorthStar, it would have certainly encouraged me to take more courses like it.
I loved the organization and clearness of the materials and teachings. I loved how we referred to many items and could get help from other students and grow together as a class.
This course was very helpful that increased my knowledge in calculus and I would like to recommend it to another people.
