French 1

Description:

In this course, students are given a lively introduction to the French language and its rich culture. They join native speakers in their everyday environment as they are taken through different daily scenarios in order to gain the necessary skills to read, write and speak French. Students will be able to engage in conversation in French, including greeting people, introducing themselves, and exchanging basic information with others. Students will be able to count from 1 to 1000, and make simple sentences in both spoken and written French. New words and phrases will be introduced with pictures, audio clips, and examples. Students will learn basic French grammar to help them build their fluency and understand the structure of the French language. There will be many opportunities to use what they learn through interactive practice activities, written practice, listening, and speaking exercises. Students will also explore the cultures of France, Canada, and other French-speaking countries by learning about geography, foods, celebrations, and traditions from each place.

FROM THE TEACHER

If you love to travel and long to explore other cultures, learning another language is the best way to get yourself ready. Imagine yourself in France, sitting at a cafe, sipping your sparkling water, while lively music plays in the background, and the Eiffel Tower stands tall in the distance. This iconic experience can really be spoiled if you don’t understand what people are saying to you, or how to respond. In this French 1 course, not only will you be able to order your food, say what you like and don’t like, and ask for directions, but you will also be able to proudly show your respect for other cultures by communicating with locals in their own language. You’re not limited to just using your French in France, either! Did you know that 28 other countries also have French as an official language? So if you’d like to talk to people in Tahiti, Belgium, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Haiti, or Quebec, you will love what you learn in this course. Join us and get ready to be a world traveller!
