Description:

This course is an excellent alternative for students needing an additional credit after Algebra 2 but who are not prepared for the rigor of pre-calculus or eventually moving on to calculus.

This course will cover topics in trigonometry including right triangle trigonometry and its applications, trigonometry of non-acute angles, radian measure and the circular functions, the trigonometric functions, applications of trigonometry and vectors, complex numbers, and exponential and logarithmic functions. Technology and graphing calculators are used extensively in this course to reinforce the concepts covered.

The recommended sequence for students taking non-Honors courses: Algebra 1 – Geometry – Algebra 2 – Other 300+ math

Special Notes:

Students need access to a scanner or digital camera (phone is fine) in order to submit work for the teacher to review. Students will also need a TI-84 graphing calculator for this course.

FROM THE TEACHER

What do the orbit of the planets, a ferris wheel, classical music, the electricity operating your computer, and the oscillation of ocean waves all have in common? Trigonometry! Are you considering a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math), but do not quite feel up to the challenge of taking Precalculus yet? Then Trigonometry just might be the course for you. Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the relationships between the sides and angles of plane or spherical triangles. A solid foundation in trigonometry is essential for any student seeking to major in architecture or engineering. Join us as we explore the exciting world of trigonometry!

Student Feedback

I think that the assignments were probably the most challenging but also thought-provoking part of the course. I was really pushed in that area to apply the book knowledge to a physical scenario that didn’t just follow an example in the book.

For the subject matter at hand, this course was well designed and organized. It helped me learn what I needed to learn.

Thank you Mrs. Robinson for this amazing first quarter here in Trig. I do not think I could have gotten to where I am without you!
