Social Studies 8 US to 1877 (SS8)
2 (yearlong course)
Social Studies 7 (SS7)
The course covers the history of the United States from the beginnings of exploration of North America to the end of the period of the Civil War and Reconstruction through the lens of a Biblical worldview. Students will develop an understanding of key themes of history, an ability to analyze historical evidence, and an ability to express historical understanding in writing. This course uses a variety of sources and emphasizes creativity, reading comprehension, writing, and analytical skills.
In this course, we are going to learn how America came to be! Yes, we all know about famous figures like the Pilgrims, George Washington, and Abe Lincoln… But what about everything and everyone else in between?! We will do a lot of fun projects, group discussions, and role-playing to help pull you into history to make it more like a story, more like a movie that reveals where we’ve been and where we are today. Many good movies have action, adventure, and mystery elements…. And so too does the story of US History! It may have happened more than a century ago, but I assure you that we will bring US History to LIFE in Social Studies 8.
If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
It was a very nicely set up class, and I never had trouble knowing what my assignments were.
I think this course was easy to understand and use, and I definitely learned stuff.
I personally love discussions post, I think it is a great way to connect to our fellow classmates. The discussion boards were so engaging, and it is fun to talk to classmates.
