Pre-Algebra
Description:
Pre-Algebra prepares students for Algebra 1. Students are guided in their learning through videos, written material, practice activities, web-based activities, and assessments. Through this course, students develop critical thinking and analytical skills by solving and analyzing equations, simplifying expressions, and solving simultaneous linear equations. Students will understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations. Students will define, evaluate, and compare functions. Students will apply geometric formulas and theorems to real-world problems. Students will identify congruence and similarity in geometric figures. Students are regularly required to reflect on the concepts they are learning, to explain their work, and to communicate their understanding of key concepts.
Pre-Algebra is available for 7th grade and up. The recommended sequence for students wishing to pursue advanced math classes: Pre-Algebra (7th grade) – Algebra 1 (8th grade) – Geometry Honors – Algebra 2 Honors – AP®/DC PreCalculus (if taking Calculus later) – AP® Calculus or AP® Statistics
FROM THE TEACHER
Welcome to Pre-Algebra! Have you ever wondered why we learn math? In this course, we will investigate and apply mathematical principles to real-world situations. Students will discover how to measure the distance across a wide river using triangles, make calculations with very small and very large numbers, find the volume and area of geometric figures, use scatterplots to make predictions, and so much more! This course exposes students to exciting math concepts through video instruction, class discussion, interactive activities, and various other online resources. Get ready to sharpen your analytical skills and develop critical thinking as we journey through God’s wonderful world of mathematics!
If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
Student Feedback
I found the class to be very organized and followed a specific routine (which was very nice), and I enjoyed the easily accessible lessons.
This was a very easy to follow course. I knew that every thee weeks I was going to have a test, which made it easier to study.
We were able to quiz each other and help each other out.
