Description:

This one semester course is designed specifically for elementary students starting out in art. Students will explore a variety of artistic concepts and apply them to their own work. Some art history will be integrated into the various units of study. Students will explore drawing, painting, and multimedia techniques in a studio approach. Weekly application projects will be completed, which introduce a variety of materials and expressive approaches to art.

Special Notes:

Students will need access to a printer and a scanner, scanner app or digital camera in order to submit work for the teacher to review.

FROM THE TEACHER

The Arts were created to provide us with ways to worship. Most of us associate music with worship, but the visual arts are just as valuable! God created beauty, and through art, we can reflect that beauty back to him. Just like musicians need training, artists need some training, too. This class is aimed at the student that would like to learn more about art, become more visually literate, and improve their drawing and composition skills. We will explore a variety of media incuding the basics: pencil, colored pencils, and paint, as well as more diverse media: markers, papier mache, and collage. We even do a little cartooning! Yes, there is something for everyone’s interests. So, I am looking forward to having you in class and we can work together to make art a valuable part of your self-expression.

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

Student Feedback

This was very easy to keep up with.

It’s [discussions] interesting because like that you can see others painting.

I loved that we used clay, paint, and pencil.
