Language Arts 9 Honors

Description:

This class offers highly motivated students material that closely mirrors Language Arts 9, with emphasis on higher level thinking skills of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Focus is on communication through composition of well-structured paragraphs, short stories and essays. Novels and short stories are building blocks of the course. Foundational grammar and standard usage are taught through writing, as well as through the continuation of grammar practice. Vocabulary is built through exploration of literature and weekly vocabulary lessons. The curriculum in this honors class often mirrors the ENGL 100 course but with assignments being more analytical and critical thinking.

Special Notes:

This course is a part of the honors/track, and intentional focus will be on the required knowledge and critical thinking and analytical skills to prepare a student to be successful in future upperlevel and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses.

FROM THE TEACHER

Do you enjoy reading and discussing literature? Would you like to take your writing to a higher level? Then Ninth Grade Language Arts Honors could be a great fit for you! This class focuses on not just simply reading literature but responding to it as well; you will interact with your classmates in discussion posts to give your thoughts on what you have read. In Ninth Grade Language Arts Honors, you will work on expanding your vocabulary, responding to literature and poetry, and writing both fiction and nonfiction pieces at an elevated honors level.

This class will help you develop important assets for wherever you find yourself in the future--being able to infer from others’ communication and clearly expressing your own thoughts are two skills you will use for the rest of your life.

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
