As an institution with 25 years of experience, NorthStar has become a global leader in online education. Our intuitive online Learning Management System delivers our customized curriculum to thousands of NorthStar students all over the globe every day.
Our in-house team of content area teachers, educational technology professionals, and design experts have fully developed 80% of NorthStar’s courses. These same experts select the remaining specialized content courses and adapt them to the NorthStar learning philosophy. In addition, NorthStar has offerings that are approved by a partner university in which students receive dual credit for both high school and university coursework.
Homeschool students are intentionally given opportunities to think critically about contradictory worldviews and compare and contrast them with that of the Bible. We strive to construct curriculum and learning experiences that meet the mission of our parent organization: Reaching the world for Christ through international Christian education.
Every Christian should desire to become like Christ. Students will gain an understanding of introductory Christian doctrine, including salvation, the study of the Bible, and the power of prayer. Students will learn how to live out their love for God and share Him with others.
This course is designed to develop students as readers and writers. Students learn from multiple texts and communicate their learning through well-crafted sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Developing vocabulary and language skills will assist students’ growth as readers and writers.
Our math courses help students explore practical mathematic concepts through daily lessons that include teacher notes and videos, practice, application, and review. Students are regularly required to reflect on the concepts they are learning, to explain their work, and to communicate their understanding of key concepts.
Students will use labs, quests, and creative projects to learn about a broad range of scientific disciplines, including earth science, physical science, biology, and astronomy. These courses focus on critical thinking with guidance while applying concepts that students have learned to real-world situations.
In social studies courses, students will use reading and comprehension, creativity, and critical thinking skills to understand global perspectives in both ancient and modern world history. Courses in psychology, sociology, personal finance, and economics are also offered.
Electives generally fall outside of the core academic subject areas. In order to graduate from NorthStar Academy, a student must have earned the required number of elective credits. Electives may reflect a student’s interests, introduce or improve skills, or be directly related to a career direction.
We offer over 200 courses for students in the 4th through 12th grades, including honors and Advanced Placement curricula.
Students are able to pursue their goals while receiving a college-preparatory education at their own pace and calendar.
