Language Arts 9 (ENGL100)
World literature introduces classic texts from such authors as Dickens, Shakespeare, Yeats, Tolstoy, and Hugo while teaching genre elements such as character development, plot, theme, and setting. Students will learn to identify common literary devices and discover how these devices contribute to the overall success of a work. Students produce original creative and analytical compositions and learn to become quality editors considering word choice, grammar, and standard usage conventions.
Let’s journey around the world to learn about history’s greatest authors and their works! From the ancients like Confucius and Sophocles to Shakespeare, Tennyson, Hugo, Golding, and Orwell, we will explore what makes their masterpieces stand the test of time and still challenge us today. Explore universal themes in thought-provoking discussions with your classmates. You will also improve your vocabulary and improve your writing skills.
If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
I really liked that there were so many videos, especially with the poems. I have a hard time understanding poems, and having videos of them being read aloud made it easier.
It was very organized.
I enjoyed this class and I’m looking forward to the next semester!
