Challenge Exam
An actively enrolled NSA student can earn a transfer credit by exam for a course by taking a NorthStar Academy “Challenge Exam.” This exam will cover all of the course objectives of the course for which it is testing proficiency. If the student who is challenging the course passes the exam with a score of 70% or better, then that student has shown a satisfactory proficiency and will be awarded transfer credit for the course. A Challenge Exam may only be taken once. Assuming that the student has passed the Challenge Exam, the student’s transcript will show the name of the class with a “CH” in the “Grade” column and “Challenge Exam from NorthStar Academy” cited as the source of the credit. The actual grade earned on the Challenge Exam will not appear on the transcript nor will it be calculated in the student’s overall GPA.
Once the request is received and payment has been processed ($70 for each 1.0 credit class and $40 for each 0.5 credit class) the parent/supervisor will be contacted to set up the date the "Challenge Exam" will be taken. Students are given a three day window to take the exam, however the test must be completed in one sitting. Parents/supervisors may request a paper based exam or an exam that can be taken within BrainHoney. The exam is scored and the parent/supervisor and student are notified of the results. Assuming a passing score of at least 70%, a student can earn credit for the material covered on the exam.
