English 1 Honors (ENGL150)
1.0 (yearlong course)
A grade of an 85% or higher in the subject area course taken the previous year.
(Previously known as Language Arts 9 Honors.)
English I Honors offers highly motivated students material that closely mirrors ENGL100, with an emphasis on higher-level thinking skills and academic writing, while reading short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and novels and viewing a Shakespearean play. Students will connect with classmates as they explore universal themes that relate to real-life experiences. Additionally, students encounter weekly vocabulary lessons and grammar lessons that will strengthen necessary skills for success at the next level of language arts.
This course is a part of the honors track, and intentional focus will be on the required knowledge and critical thinking and analytical skills to prepare a student to be successful in future upperlevel and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Are you excited and ready to begin your high school courses with gusto? Welcome to English 1 Honors — a freshman-level language course focused not only on reading literature but responding as well!
