Description:

English I engages students in frequent reading of short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and novels and responding to literature through academic writing. Students will connect with classmates as they explore universal themes that relate to real-life experiences. Additionally, students encounter weekly vocabulary lessons and grammar lessons that will strengthen necessary skills for success at the next level of language arts.

FROM THE TEACHER

Do you enjoy reading and discussing literature? Would you like to take your writing to a higher level? Then ENGL100 could be a great fit for you! This class focuses on not just simply reading literature but responding to it as well; you will interact with your classmates in discussion posts to give your thoughts on what you have read, as well as journaling your observations to the exciting texts in this class. In ENGL100, you will expand your vocabulary and compose a variety of writing. This class will help you develop important assets for wherever you find yourself in the future–inferring from others’ communication correctly and clearly expressing your own thoughts are two skills you will use for the rest of your life.

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

I have learned a lot in the past year, but I have seen the most change in my attitude towards English. I have come to enjoy it, where previously I tried to avoid it. I now look forward to Language Arts each week, instead of dreading it! Also, I now understand many of the concepts better: the parts of a story, effects that authors use, parts of speech, and so much more. Finally, I feel like this year in English has prepared me to move on and write with more confidence. Before this year, I was unsure about my writing skills and knowledge of grammar, but this year has helped me to see that I can do much more than I give myself credit for! I have thoroughly enjoyed this year in English 100, and I feel like it has completely changed my attitude towards Language Arts.
