FROM THE TEACHER
Have you ever visited the Seychelle Islands or Tahiti? When I see photos of the turquoise waves, colorful birds, and giant coconuts in these stunning places, I definitely get the urge to travel… and this is one of the many reasons why I’m thankful that I can speak French! Having a solid understanding of a different language opens up many opportunities to enjoy and learn from other cultures in diverse places.
As you go deeper into your study of French this year, you’ll get to see how language and culture are inextricably linked, which means that your study of language isn’t just about verbs or vocabulary. Although this course will definitely teach you new words and more sophisticated ways of communicating, it will also offer you a greater understanding of and appreciation for francophone contributions and influences in history, art, literature, cuisine, and countless other aspects of modern life around the world. Uncovering the rich, unique nature of French-speaking communities across the globe is just one fascinating reason to build your French skills in this course. (Not to mention learning how to make the tangy French mint lemonade in unit 4, too!)
