World Literature EVP


World literature introduces classic texts from such authors as Dickens, Shakespeare, Yeats, Tolstoy, and Hugo while teaching genre elements such as character development, plot, theme, and setting. Students will learn to identify common literary devices and discover how these devices contribute to the overall success of a work. Students produce original creative and analytical compositions and learn to become quality editors considering word choice, grammar, and standard usage conventions.

Special Instructions:

*As part of the EVP program, this course will have a live class requirement once a week at a set time; please see the website for time choices. This live class will include teaching, discussion with classmates from around the world, demonstrations, questions and answers, and other aspects of a live classroom. Students will have weekly due dates and stay on a traditional coursework schedule.

Have you ever wanted to travel the world, exploring different cultures and times in history? The World Literature course offers the opportunity to learn about history’s greatest authors and their works! From the ancients like Confucius and Sophocles — to Shakespeare, Tennyson, Hugo, Golding, and Orwell, we will explore what makes their masterpieces stand the test of time and still challenge us today. Explore universal themes in thought-provoking discussions with your classmates.What was going on in the author’s time that would affect him/her in such a way as to write this work? How did Christianity and God’s Truth influence this time period? What can we take away from this time that influences our thoughts today? As we navigate world classics, we will also grow in our writing and analytical skills. What better way to learn about our world than from those who reflected in their respective regions and expressed their thoughts in timeless pieces. Come join us on the adventure! The Live Class EVP setting will allow you to dialogue weekly with your teacher and fellow classmates as we learn together some of the world’s greatest literary masterpieces.
