Starting something new always comes with a learning curve—and starting an online school is no exception. From navigating digital platforms to understanding tech requirements, we know that for many families, diving into online education can feel a bit overwhelming at first.

But here’s the good news: you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

At NorthStar Academy, we’re committed to making sure every student—and every parent—feels confident and equipped from the moment they log in.

💻 What Tech Do You Really Need?

Online learning doesn’t require a fancy setup or the latest gadgets. It just takes the right tools—and we make it simple. We’ve outlined everything you need on our Technology Requirements page, including:

  • Reliable internet connection
  • A laptop or desktop computer (not just a phone or tablet)
  • Supported operating systems and browsers
  • Headphones with a microphone (great for live sessions!)
  • Updated software like Adobe Reader and Zoom

Our team keeps this list up-to-date, so you always know what’s needed for a smooth experience.

🌐 So Many Platforms—How Do You Keep Up?

We get it—between video calls, assignments, messaging, and accessing course content, it can feel like a lot of tabs open at once (literally!).

But here’s the thing: every tool we use was chosen to make your student’s learning more seamless.

At NorthStar, students typically interact with:

  • Buzz – our user-friendly learning management system (LMS) where they can view lessons, submit assignments, check grades, and communicate with teachers.
  • Teams – used for occasional live sessions and interactive opportunities.
  • Outlook – our main channel for keeping families informed.

And if that sounds like too much to juggle, don’t worry—we offer guides, walkthroughs, and real people ready to help every step of the way.

🤝 You’re Not Expected to Be a Tech Expert

Many of our families are brand-new to online learning, and it’s perfectly normal to have questions or run into roadblocks in the beginning. That’s why we have a dedicated support team available to help you troubleshoot tech issues, walk you through logins, and get everything set up before classes begin.

You’ll also find:

  • Orientation videos and resources for both students and parents
  • Responsive support via email and chat
  • Step-by-step instructions for each major platform

We’re here to walk beside you—not just on Day One, but throughout your entire journey.

🙌 Flexibility, Support, and a Christ-Centered Community

Technology is just the tool—we never want it to be the barrier. Our goal is to create an environment where students can thrive academically, grow spiritually, and connect meaningfully with others around the world. And yes, sometimes that starts with figuring out which browser works best.

But once that’s set up, a whole world of learning, growth, and connection opens up.
