DC Apologetics – Understanding the Times

Description:

New for 24-25!

The Apologetics – Understanding the Times course provides students with a comprehensive biblical worldview. This course will act as a guide to understanding the ideas and forces that shape our times. This course offers a fascinating, comprehensive look at how the tenets of the Christian worldview compare with five major competing worldviews of our day: Islam, Secularism, Marxism, New Spirituality, and Postmodernism. Throughout the course, students will build a guidebook for each competing worldview and will discover the truths of God — and our world. By the conclusion of the course, students will be equipped to offer a defense to anyone who asks them to give an account for the hope they have in Jesus Christ.

Prior understanding of apologetics and the Christian worldview is assumed for this course (BIBL300 Foundations for the Christian Worldview or equivalent).

Special Notes:

Credit in this course can be applied toward the 1.0 graduation credit requirement for worldview studies.

This course is Dual Credit eligible through our partnership with Colorado Christian University.

FROM THE TEACHER

This class is specifically designed to be an immediate follow up to Foundations for the Christian Worldview. We will look at how our Christian worldview impacts other competing worldviews. This is a senior level course, preparing students for college. College students will encounter varying challenges from competing worldviews on campus — but will you be able to face those questions? Are you ready to answer hard questions about what you believe, address competing ideas and concepts, and be able to defend your conviction in the biblical worldview?

Simply believing “because my parents believe” is not a strong personal faith. Away from the protections of home, Christians will be challenged. The world is asking really good and tough questions. And Christians have really good answers — but if students do not know those answers, they can doubt those beliefs and even be dissuaded from their Christian faith. Educated professors may be quite persuasive to the untrained; this class will help students be ready to encounter competing worldviews and defend their beliefs for themselves.

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

Student Feedback

The course is pretty well set up and easy to navigate.

Jacob

By uniting our hearts with our minds, apologetics strengthen the believers. Apologetics helps us to deal with the doubts of those we are witnessing to helping us to remove the potholes on the road to the cross. Apologetics helps us engage with people’s doubts, arguments, or confusion in a way that points people to the truth of the gospel.

The videos where extremely helpful to me as I am a visual learner and they elaborated on the reading material.
