Students explore more of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries through engaging interactive games, videos, and audio recordings and apply what they learn through written practice, listening, and speaking exercises.
This course is not eligible for high school credit.
Hundreds of years ago, Spain was a powerful country, sending explorers and colonists to the New World. Because of this, about 400 million people speak Spanish as their native language today. That is more than any other language except Chinese. Millions of people in the United States, who have come here from Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain and countries in Central and South America, speak Spanish. It is a very useful language to learn. Many say the best way to learn a language is to go to a country where it is spoken and learn there. Imagine yourself at a train station. You have just missed your train. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to ask important questions, like, “When does the next train for Mexico City leave?” or “Where are the restrooms?” or even “Does anyone speak English?” This is a great opportunity to learn Spanish before you need it.
