Physical Science Honors (PHSC150)
Science
1.0 (yearlong course)
A grade of an 85% or higher in the subject area course taken the previous year.
Science 8 or 8th graders taking physical science need to have a 90% or higher in a 7th grade science course and be intending to progress to AP-level courses in high school science.
This course is designed to prepare students for future high school science courses with an introduction to a variety of topics such as the physics of motion, chemistry, and energy. Students will learn and practice experimental procedures using household chemicals and supplies. Students will complete several research projects on the periodic table and digital and analog signals, and will apply scientific ideas learned as they design and build two projects related to motion and energy. As honors students they will be expected to design, conduct, and evaluate their own experiment. This course has a lab component.
This course is a part of the honors track, and intentional focus will be on the required knowledge and critical thinking and analytical skills to prepare a student to be successful in future upper level and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses.
Do you enjoy doing experiments? Then Physical Science is the course for you. This class has many hands on activities and experiments using household materials to help you understand the amazing processes that God has put in place to make creation function as it does.
Examine a few elements, identify some forces, create some waves, and we’ll discover some reactions!
This honors class goes a step further than the basic Physical Science class with several research projects that allow students to dig deeper into topics that interest them. You will even invent a new superhero!
If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
I am so grateful for the teacher’s lesson plans and weekly teaching units.
Easy to understand.
I absolutely love the lessons in this course. Not only are the scientific topics interesting alone, but the way it is presented in the lessons are so fun! I love all the interesting fun-facts and jokes included in the lessons as well! I think this course was very balanced and very organized. It included a great variety in assignments!
